Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 3 at Decorah Lutheran Church for Reuben Henry Henning, age 72, of Decorah, Iowa. He died Saturday, October 31, 1987 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. The Reverends John Halvorson and Alden Hovda officiated at the 1 p.m. services with burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Castalia, Iowa. Sensor-French Funeral Home of Decorah, Iowa was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Lyle, Randy, and Ronald Henning, John Opfer, David Lawson and Douglas Koenig.

Reuben was born September 18, 1915 in Allamakee County, Iowa to Theodore and Emma (Grotegut) Henning. He attended rural Allamakee County schools. In 1939 he married Charlotte Koenig at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. They farmed in the Ossian-Castalia area before moving to Decorah, Iowa in 1971. He was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Henning and a brother Irvin Henning.

He is survived by his mother Emma Henning of
Waukon, Iowa; by his wife, Charlotte Henning of Decorah, Iowa; 2 sons, Les Henning and Dean Henning, both of Decorah, Iowa; 2 daughters, Mrs. Charles (Janice) Gossman of Ridgeway, Iowa and Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) Lysne of Brandon, Mississippi; 11 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Larry Henning of Greenville, South Carolina, Calvin Henning of Waukon, Iowa, and Robert Henning of Ossian, Iowa; and 3 sisters, Lorraine Koenig of Postville, Iowa, and Gertrude Hagen and Betty Opfer, both of Waukon, Iowa.
