Funeral services for Angie Hammel were held Monday, Dec. 5, 1983 at 10:30 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville. The Rev. Dennis E. Morey officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Frankville Cemetery.
Angie Hammel, daughter of Thomas and Elisa (Ewing) Folsom, was born Sept. 5, 1892 on a farm northeast of Postville in Post Township. She died Nov. 30, 1983 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.
She was baptized as an infant and became a confirmed member of the Bethel United Presbyterian Church, formerly located northeast of Postville. She attended Lybrand School located near her family's home.
She was married to Earl R. Hammel, Nov. 12, 1912. They were the parents of three sons. They farmed for 48 years in Allamakee and Winneshiek Counties. In 1958 they retired and lived in Frankville. She moved to Postville where she has lived for the past several years, sharing her home with her good friend, Emma Henning.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl, who died April 23, 1968; a son, Layton; eight brothers, Lonnie, Lee, Melbert, Richard, Milo, Gilbert, William and Austin; and a sister, Rachel (Mrs. Warner Harris).
Surviving are two sons, Leo, Decorah, and Dean, Milwaukee, WI; 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
