Julia Dessel

Funeral services for Julia Dessel, Ossian, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 31, at St. Francis DeSales Church in Ossian. Msgr. Kenneth M. Ryan officiated.

Julia Dessel, daughter of James and Catherine (Merst) Peyer, was born November 30, 1884 near Ossian and died January 28, 1979 at the Ossian Senior Hospice.

She received her education in the rural Ossian schools. September 30, 1908 she married Joseph Dessel at Ossian, to this union four children were born.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1970; a son, Ray; and a granddaughter, Joan Whittier.

She is survived by two sons: George and Jim Dessel, West Union; a daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Salick, Watertown, Wis.; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Burial was in the St. Francis DeSales Cemetery. Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, handled arrangements.
