Hesper, Iowa--- The funeral for Maynard O. Folstad will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hesper Lutheran Church with the Rev. Hans Floan officiating. A private burial service will be held in Hesper Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Folstad, 69, of Hesper, a longtime area farmer, died Monday (Jan. 5, 1998) at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel after a lengthy illness with cancer. Born Feb. 17, 1928, in Spring Grove, he graduated from Mabel High School, and farmed in Hesper Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa, all his working life except from 1983 to 1987 when he farmed near Waukon, Iowa. In 1955 he married Mabel Reha and they were later divorced. He married Florence Hexom in 1976. She died in 1987.

Mr. Folstad was lifelong member of Hesper Lutheran Church and recently had served on the church council.

Survivors include two sons, Mark of rural Mabel and Alvin of Houston; a daughter, Sandra Folstad of Decorah, Iowa; a brother, Arland of Mabel; and a sister, Beatrice Schmitz of Caledonia. Three brothers preceded him in death. Friends may call from 4p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and an hour before the service Thursday at the church.
