Obituary for Mrs. James Aasum, 30 Sept. 1943: Mrs. Esther Mathilde Aasum was born at Hesper, Iowa, on the 31st day of Oct., 1894. Her parents were Edward and Mary Nelson. One sister, Nellie preceded her in death when but 20 years old. She was baptized in this church on the 13th of Jan. 1895 and after religious instruction by her Christian mother, in school and in the pastors class she was confirmed on the 31st day of Oct. her (birthday) 1909 also in this church. On the 29th days of Dec. 1915 Esther was joined in marriage to Mr. James Aasum of Fillmore county, Minn., the nuptials being held at Mabel. For 28 years during which Esther and James Aasum lived an ideal and beautiful life together, they were engaged at farming in the town of Hesper, Iowa,except for 2 years when they operated a farm in Fillmore county.

The following children were born to them: Vivian Mildred, Darlene Joice, Odell Eugene and Eva Jeanette, who was taken home to God when but 9 years old. Esthers death came on the 30th day of Sept. 1943, at 11 p.m. Her age was only 48 years, 11 month, and 1 day.
