Vernice L. Richert, 97, Mabel, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 1996, at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.

The former Vernice Darrington was born Feb. 19, 1899, in Hesper Township, Winneshiek County, to Arthur and Minnie (Noecker) Darrington. She attended the Hesper School. On March 26, 1919, she married Lloyd Richert in Hesper. They farmed in the Hesper area. He later died in 1950.

She was a homemaker and affiliated with the Hesper Friends Church. Mrs. Richert has resided at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel for last past nine years.

Vernice is survived by cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother.

Funeral services were Wednesday at the Hesper Friends Church in Hesper, with the Rev. Keith Mardock officiating. Burial was in the Hesper Public Cemetery.

Mengis Funeral Home, Mabel, was in charge of arrangements.
