Obituary from the Mabel Record of 28 January, 1982

Walter Barth, 74, mabel, died Monday, Jan. 25, at St. Francis hospital in La Crosse, where he had been a patient since Wednesday.

He was born April 7, 1907, in Hesper Township, Winneshiek County, Ia., the son of Henry and Margretha (Young) Barth. He attended school in Hesper township.

On May 2, 1928, he married Wilma Darrington. They farmed in Hesper township for 53 years, retiring and moving to Mabel in November, 1981. He was a member of the Bur Oak Lutheran church.

Survivors are his wife; three sons, Darrell, Houston, Minn., Neil, Waukon, Ia., Merlin, Othello, Wash., three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Marleene) Ward, Mabel, Mrs. Howard (Alice) Reedquist, Lakewood, Col., Mrs. Daniel (Susan) Vogeler, Maybell, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond, Decorah, Ia., and Howard, Dundee, Ill.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Burr Oak Lutheran church. The Rev. Marilyn Hanson officiating. Burial in the Hesper public cemetery.

Visitation at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel after 2 p.m. Thursday and at the church between 12:30 and 1:30 day of services.
