Susan Wenthold

Susan Wenthold, 49, of Monrovia, Md., died Wednesday, May 23, 2001 of cancer at Suburban Hospital, Bethesda; Md.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 29 at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, Ijamsville, Md. The Rev. Thomas Polk officiated. A private interment is planned.

Susan J. Catron was born July 12, 1951 in Des Moines, the daughter of Bernard and Eva (Smoot) Catron.

She graduated from Ankeny High School and attended Iowa State University in Ames, where she met fellow student Stephen Wenthold. They were married May 15, 1971 in Ankeny.

For almost a decade, she and Stephen Wenthold had been business partners in Meredian Surveys, Gaithersburg, Md., a land survey company they co-founded.

She was the company's business and financial manager and had been a real estate agent before the company began.

Susan Wenthold enjoyed doing craft projects, liked to travel and shop and kept a beautiful home.

Survivors include her husband, Stephen Wenthold, a DECORAH native, and currently of Monrovia, and her son, Michael Wenthold, also of Monrovia.

Additional survivors include her mother, Eva Catron of Earlham, Iowa, and her mother-in-law, Florence and Drew Wenthold of DECORAH; two sisters Betty Harris of Des Moines and Teresa Ransey of Hagerstown, Md.; four brothers, Jerald and Janet Catron of Ankeny; Thomas and Karen Catron of Des Moines; Curtis and Caren Catron of Chariton, Iowa, and Craig and
Lisa Catron of Gaithersburg; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Eugene and Rickie Wenthold of Apple Valley, Minn, and Rosemary and Mark Gagstetter of Eden Prairie, Minn., and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Susan J. Wenthold was preceded in death by her father, Bernard Catron of Earlham, who died Oct. 7, 1992 and her father-in-law, Edward Wenthold of Decorah, who died Aug. 3, 1992.
