Bernice Blagsvedt

Bernice Blagsvedt, 82, of Mabel, Minn. died Saturday, April 11, 2001 at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 11 at 2 p.m. at Elsted Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro, Minn., with the Rev. Rod Nygren officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.

Burial will be in the church cemetery, with Mengis Funeral Home of Mabel handling arrangements.

Bernice Blagsvedt was born April 29, 1918 near DECORAH, the daughter of Lars and Karen (Frovik) Samuelson, who were immigrants from Norway.

She graduated from Decorah High School in 1937 and married Julius Sjarpe Oct. 24, 1940.

They moved to and farmed in Amherst Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota. Julius Sjarpe died in 1964.

She married Cyrus Blagsvedt, a farmer, near Amherst Township. He died March 23,1993.

After his death, she moved to Newburg, Minn. where she resided until recently, becoming a resident at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.

She was a member of the Elstad Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro and its WELCA, where she had been past president. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and making scrapbooks.

Surviving are two sons, Norman and Beatrice Sjarpe of Stewartville, Minn., and Gary and Carol Sjarpe of Lanesboro; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one brother, Leif Samuelson of Decorah.

Bernice Blagsvedt was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and an infant son.
