Nona Schwarz

Nona Schwarz, 82, of Marion, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a short illness.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids.

Nona Ruby (Sills) Schwarz was born April 26, 1918 to Cliff and Blanche (Andrews) Sills on a farm near Indian Creek, Marion, Iowa. She was the fourth of 12 children and attended schools in the area.

She married Frank Lester Schwarz on May 8, 1937. To this union four children were born: Dean, Steven, Beverley, and William.

Nona Schwarz was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marion. She worked for the Cedar Rapids schools and for the Square D Company. After retirement, Nona Schwarz volunteered in the literacy programs in Cedar Rapids and in Harlington, Texas, where she and her husband had a winter retirement home.

Nona Schwarz was devoted to her husband of more than 63 years, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren as well as many nieces
and nephews.

She enjoyed golfing, bowling, and fishing, and whenever she went fishing she invariably caught the first fish. She loved learning and teaching about nature, and her hands were never idle.

Surviving Nona Schwarz are her husband, Frank Schwarz of Marion; a daughter Beverley Reinert and Duncan Suthers of Fairfax; sons Dean and Gerry Schwarz of DECORAH and William and Judy Schwarz of Cedar Rapids; her grandchildren Bill Schwarz of Iowa City; Gunnar, Lane and Jason Schwarz of Decorah; Nan Schwarz of Seattle, Wash.; Sheela Schwarz of Kolona; Justin Reinert of Senden, Germany; September Mayer and Sabre Hauser of Marion; Amber Schwarz of Washington, D.C.; Rion Schwarz of Cedar Rapids; and Sara Schwarz of Tampa Bay, Fla.; and great grandchildren Carolyn, Evan, Stefan, Kai, Desarae, Summer, Jordyn, Emily, Christian, Devyn, Marguerite, and Maverick; her sisters, Rita Byse, Dorothy Beneke, Wilma Johnson, Lila Williams, and Joyce Albin; and brother Larry Sills.

Nona Ruby (Sills) Schwarz was preceded in death by her parents; her
brothers Richard, Neil, Danny, Milton and Faye Sills; her son, Steven; and
her grandson, Jeremy.
