John O. Larson

John O. Larson, 72, of Des Moines, died Monday, March 20, 2000 at his home following kidney failure.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 23 at 1 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Des Moines.

John was born on August 2, 1927 in Los Angeles, Calif. A 1945 graduate of Decorah High School, John later attended Luther College, graduating in 1949.

He worked at True Value Hardware in Des Moines following his retirement from the professional relations department at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Iowa in 1982.

John's interests were centered around family, friends, and his Norwegian heritage. He cherished his Decorah and Luther College memories. He returned to Decorah regularly and made a lifetime habit of staying in touch with relatives and old friends. Often his visits were devoted to his research of family genealogy.

He was an active member in the St. John's Lutheran Church in Des Moines and the Luther College Alumni Association.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Dorothy (Martinson), of Des Moines; daughters Mary Davenport of Sherwood, Wis.; Joan Ghafouri of
Fairfield, Conn.; and Barbara Wilkinson of West Des Moines; son, John David Larson of Rolling Meadows, Illinois; and three grandchildren.

John Larson was preceded in death by father Lawrence, mother Grace, and daughter Kristine Tollman.
