E. Milford Sivesind

E. Milford Sivesind, 91, of Sparta, Wis., died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at the Rolling Hills Nursing Home of Sparta, Wis.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at 1 p.m., at Faith Lutheran Church in La Crosse, Wis., with the Rev. James Cummings officiating.

Burial will be at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona, Minn. The Page-Smith Funeral Home of Sparta handled arrangements.

E. Milford Sivesind was born Jan. 7, 1908, in WINNESHIEK County, the son of Emil and Minnie (Allison) Sivesind.

He was baptized and confirmed at the Glenwood Lutheran Church, rural DECORAH. He completed eighth grade at the Lee School, also of rural DECORAH.

In 1928 he left the family farm and attended flight school in Kansas City. He worked in railway construction in Wisconsin and later was employed as a mechanic in the Black River Falls and Neillsville area for three years.

Before World War II, he taught flying for the Civil Pilots Training Program for the government in Iowa City and in Sparta.

Milford was united in marriage to Betty Wallrich Nov. 18, 1941, in Decorah. They moved to Oklahoma.

As a flight commander, Mirford flew for a United States Army contract teaching Army cadets for two years. Upon completion of the contract, he attended watchmakers school in Kansas City.

Then they moved to New Mexico and purchased a jewelry store, which they operated from 1947-66. They moved to Sparta, Wis., and purchased the E & B Jewelry Store, where they remained until retiring in 1982.

Milford was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in La Crosse, Wis.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Mrs. Darlene Sivesind.

E. Milford Sivesind was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; and four brothers, Olaf, Clarence, William and Ernest
