Phyllis Yetter

Phyllis W. Yetter, 77, of Wabasha, Minn., and formerly of Cedar Rapids and Decorah, died Thursday, March 25, 1999, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Wabasha, due to cancer.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 30, at 11 a.m., at the Turner Funeral Home-East Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Interment will be at Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour before services.

A memorial service was held Saturday, March 27, at 10 a.m., at the Kellogg United Methodist Church in Kellogg, Minn., with the Rev. Lyle Krumrie officiating. The Abbott Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Phyllis (Wiley) Yetter was bom Sept. 10, 1921, in Walker, the daughter of James and Wilhelmina (Eich) Wiley. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids in 1939. She then attended Cedar Rapids Business College for two years.

On Dec. 24, 1941, she was married to Corliss "Corky" Yetter at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. The family moved to Decorah in 1952.

In 1958, the couple bought a cabin in Deer Cove, in Greenfield Township of rural Wabasha, Minn. They made the property their permanent home in 1973.

Phyllis was a homemaker and Corky worked for the Thermogas Co. He was a regional manager with the company.

In recent years, Phyllis devoted much of her time to quilt making. Among her accomplishments, she created over 200 quilts that were either sold or given as gifts to people all over the world.

Survivors include her husband, Corky Yetter of Wabasha, Minn.; a son, James and Barbara Yetter of Donahue; a daughter, Luann Yetter and Frank Underkuffler of Farmington, Maine; five grandchildren, Eric Yetter, Nicole (Brian) Mohr, Corey Yetter, and Nathaniel and Wilson Underkuffler; brothers and sisters-in-law Kenneth and Joan Wiley of Sun City, Ariz., Russell and JoAnn Wiley of Cedar Rapids, and Douglas and Bonnie Wiley of Savannah, Tenn.; and nieces and nephews.

Phyllis Yetter was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Beverly.
