Loren Dale Weselmann

Loren Dale Weselmann, 70, of Decorah, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at his home after a long illness.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m., at Decorah Lutheran Church. Officiating were the Revs. James Glesne, John Mayer, and Bob Williams.

Kathy Murray was the organist. Rick and Kelly Wangsness sang "Angels Among Us". Roy Snyder sang "Precious Lord". Congregational hymns were "Borning Cry" and "On Eagle's Wings".

Casket bearers were Chris, Brent and Chad Ness, Ron Snyder and Gary and Bob Wangsness.

Honorary bearers were members of the I.O.O.F. softball team and their wives.

Military rites at graveside were by the Halverson Giesen American Legion Post No. 266 and the Helof-Holm V.F.W. Post No. 1977.

Interment was at the Calmar Lutheran Cemetery. The French & Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Loren Dale Weselmann was born Sept. 24, 1930, at the Smith Memorial Hospital in Decorah, the son of Ralph O. and Esther G. (Boe) Weselmann.

He attended Calmar High School, Luther College and Iowa State University. Loren served in the United States Army from 1951-53.

He married Helen Ness July 24, 1982, at Calmar Lutheran Church.

He worked at Weselmann Meat Market in Calmar, Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance, Interstate Livestock Producers Association, Central Harvester, farmed with Neil Wangsness, Short Stop and Spectrum Industries.

He was a member of the Calmar Volunteer Fire Department, Halverson-Giesen American Legion Post No, 266 of Calmar, the Calmar Commercial Club, the Iowa Meat Packers Association, V.F.W. Post No. 1977 of Decorah and Silvercrest Golf Club. He was a charter member of the South Winn Gold Club and a former member of the Calmar City Council.

Loren enjoyed softball, bowling, football, baseball and golf, computer solitaire and he was an expert at doing crossword puzzles.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Weselmann of Decorah; one son, Kevin and Sharon Weselmann of Decorah; and daughters Karla and Steve Brown of Waterloo, Kathy and Greg Vick of Decorah, Jamie and Joe Tekippe of Dyersville and Cindy and Chris Fretheim of Evansdale.

There are 10 grandchildren, Emily and Anna Weselmann, Amy Rolfs, Andy and Katie Vick, Heather Herbsleb, J.R. and Hanna Tekippe, and Alison and Krista Fretheim.

Also surviving are one great-granddaughter, Emma Rolfs; one sister, Martha and Dave Huinker of Decorah; and one sister-in-law, Dee Weselmann of California.

Loren Dale Weselmann was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Roger Weselmann; one granddaughter, Adrian Vick; sister-in-law Carol Ness and father-in-law Lester Ness.
