Arlene Clasen

Arlene Clasen, 76, of Spillville, died Wednesday, July 14, 1999, at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah, after a long illness.

Memorial services were held Sunday, July 18, at 2 p.m., at Calmar Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul Gundersen officiating.

Alan Sensor was the organist. Hymns included "Amazing Grace," "Just As I Am" and "How Great Thou Art."

The committal service of the ashes was at the church cemetery. The Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Arlene Mae (Peterson) Clasen, daughter of Even and Ida (Borseth) Peterson, was born Jan., 10, 1923, in Madison Township of Winneshiek County, rural Decorah. She was baptized at Madison Lutheran Church and confirmed at First. Lutheran Church in Decorah. Arlene graduated from Decorah High School.

On June 10, 1948, she was united in marriage to Robert Clasen, at the Methodist parsonage in Decorah. They raised three children.

Robert and Arlene made their home in New Hampton for many years, where Arlene was active in, the church. She enjoyed leading the devotions
and Bible study for Ladies Aid. She also enjoyed her garden, raising beautiful flowers. Her family gave her great pleasure.

Survivors include her husband, Robert; one son, Jay and Linda Clasen of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Wanita and Robert Ruen of Decorah, and Susan McCloud of St. Cloud, Fla.; six grandchildren, Ronald and wife Sabrina Clasen, Robert Clasen, Jennifer Clasen, Dustin McCloud, Julie and husband Troy Hale, and Robert Bradley Ruen; and one great grandson, Parker Hale.

Also surviving are two sisters, Lillian Borseth and Inez Viste, both of Decorah.

Arlene Clasen was preceded in death by a son, John Paul; her parents; two brothers, Elvin and Ove; and two sisters, Ruth and Esther.
