OLIVER MERRILL, 20, of rural Fort Atkinson, died as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident Friday, Feb. 12, 1999.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m., at the Calmar Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the church Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time. The French Funeral Home of Calmar is handling arrangements.

Survivors include his parents, Tim and Deb (Miller) Merrill and brother, Jeremy, of Fort Atkinson, and grandparents Clinton and Jean Merrill of Tyro, Va., Virginia Merrill of Fort Atkinson and Barbara Miller of Cedar Falls.

Oliver Merrill

Oliver Merrill, 20, of rural Fort Atkinson, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near New Hampton.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m., at the Calmar Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul Gunderson officiating.

Playing the organ was Alan Sensor. Hymns were "Rock of Ages" and "I Know of A Sleep in Jesus' Name."

Casket bearers were Jessica Miller, John Wendling, Gary Chensvold, Josh Abbott, Brad Schrandt and Jon Schrandt.

Interment was at the Calmar Lutheran Cemetery. The French Funeral Home of Calmar handled arrangements.

Oliver Wendell Merrill was born April 15, 1978, in Waterloo, the son of Tim and Deb (Miller) Merrill. He was baptized Feb. 25, 1979, in Cedar Falls. He was confirmed at Calmar Lutheran Church May 2, 1993.

Oliver graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1996. He went on to graduate from Northeast Iowa Community College in May of 1998.

He was hired as an electrician even before graduation.

Oliver enjoyed little league baseball and go-cart racing. He was involved in several theatrical productions at South Winn.

Oliver obtained his private pilot's license and worked along side the rest of his family building their own airplane. That airplane went on to win Grand Champion honors at the Oshkosh (Wis.) Air Show in 1996.

He also was interested in stereo systems and had quite a set-up in his car. Oliver was outgoing and made friends wherever he went.

Oliver was employed by Sara Lee in New Hampton where he worked as a third-shift electrician. The Sara Lee plant manager said, "He was well-liked and well-respected by his peers and supervisors. He was a superb employee.'

Prior to Sara Lee, Oliver had worked for several years at K & S Super Valu in Decorah.

Survivors include his parents, Tim and Deb Merrill; brother Jeremy Merrill; grandparents Barbara Miller, Virginia Merrill, and Clinton and Jean Merrill; and several aunt, uncles and cousins.

Oliver Merrill was preceded in death by his grandfather Lavern Miller.
