Kay Numedahl

Kay Numedahl, 58, of Calmar, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wis., after a long illness.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m., at the Calmar Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul Gunderson officiating.

Soloist was Don DiLaura who sang "In The Garden." Organist was Al Sensor. Hymns were "Amazing Grace," "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," and "How Great Thou Art."

Casket bearers were her grandchildren, Matt, Marc and Tyler Numedahl, Kristen Johnston, and Kurtis and Kory Numedahl.

Interment was at Calmar Lutheran Cemetery. The French and Balik Funeral home handled arrangements.

Kay Francis Numedahl was born July 3, 1941, the daughter of Lester and Ida (Pusher) Smock, in Decorah.

She was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Decorah. She attended school in Decorah.

On October 20, 1959, she married Lyle Numedahl at the United Methodist Church in Caledonia, Minn.

Kay worked at Calmar Foods in Calmar for several years.

She liked bowling, enjoyed going to Madison Lake to fish, and being with family. She also liked to cook and enjoyed flowers. Kay had a fondness for collecting Beanie Babies.

Kay is survived by her husband, Lyle Numedahl of Calmar; a daughter, Kim and Gene Simon of Calmar; three sons, Craig and Joyce Numedahl of Urbandale, Kyle and Karla Numedahl of Ossian, and Monty Numedahl of Independence; six grandchildren, Matt, Marc and Tyler Numedahl, Kristen Johnston, and Kurtis and Korey Numedahl; a sister, Charlene Gilbertson of Decorah; and a sister-in-law, Audrey Smock of Coronado, Calif.

Kay Francis (Smock) Numedahl was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Shirley Fonseca and Norma Joanne Smock; and four brothers, Burnell Smock, Don Smock, Elmer Smock and Richard Smock.
