Alma Marie (Schmitt) Schneberger

Alma Schneberger, 73, of Calmar died Sunday, March 25, 2001 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisc., following a short illness.

Mass of Christian Burial service was held Thursday, March 29, at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church in Calmar, with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating. Music was provided by organist Alan Sensor and the St. Aloysius Choir.

Casket bearers were Del Schmitt, Jeff Erickson, Francis Best, Danny Schmitt, David Zumack, Scott Butterfield and Dennis Schneberger.

Interment was at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Calmar, with arrangements by French Funeral Home of Calmar.

Alma Marie Schmitt Schneberger was born Feb. 26, 1928, the daughter of Nick and Margaret (Blong) Schmitt in St. Lucas.

She attended and graduated from St. Luke's Catholic School in St. Lucas.

She worked on the family farm and then married James Schneberger June 22, 1955 at St. Luke's in St. Lucas.

They moved to Calmar in 1955 and she worked at Graphics and then in the lunch program at South Winneshiek Schools until retiring.

Alma was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, the Rosary Society, the Adult Choir, and took care of the altar flowers for over 30 years. She was also a member of the South Winneshiek Golf and Country Club
and the Women's Legion Auxiliary.

Alma enjoyed growing flowers, watching birds, collecting ceramic dogs and gambling. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and she enjoyed taking care of them.

Survivors include her husband, James Schneberger of Calmar; one son, Dean and Marie Schneberger of Calmar; three grandchildren; one sister, Germaine and Nick Winter of St. Lucas; one niece; three great-nieces and one uncle, Brother Wendelin Blong of Milwaukee, Wisc.

Alma Marie (Schmitt) Schneberger was preceded in death by her parents and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services for Alma M. Schneberger of Calmar were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 29 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. The Rev. Donald Hawes officiated. Interment was in St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Calmar. French Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
