Dean J. Thuente

Dean J. Thuente, 50, of Nelson, Wis., and formerly of Calmar, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque from cancer.

A memorial mass will be held Thursday, Sept. 7, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, with the Rev. Donald Hawes officiating.

Alan Sensor will be the organist. The French Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Dean was born Feb. 14, 1950, in Decorah, the son of Hugo and Thecla (Bullerman) Thuente. He graduated from Ossian De Sales Catholic School
in 1968.

After high school, Dean worked in various occupations in Iowa, Illinois and Colorado, before returning to Calmar to obtain his registered nurse degree at Northeast Iowa Community College.

He worked at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Wabasha, Minn., and most recently at Boelter's Industries. Dean enjoyed playing cards and helping others. Although his golf scores weren't low, he enjoyed playing golf and will be remembered for his love of family and friends.

Survivors include his mother, Thecla Thuente of Calmar; special friend Pam Nesler of Wabasha, Minn.; two sisters, Anna Mae and Art Huinker of Peosta, and Stella and John Marshall of Lake Zurich, Illinois; three nieces, Tammy (Dave) Huinker of Dubuque, Peggy (Jeff) Cornick of Mason City, and Jennifer Huinker of Peosta; six nephews, Terry (Mary) Huinker of Conroy, Tim (Joan) Huinker of Rochelle, Dan (Lisa) Huinker of Creve Coeur, Mo., Ted (Gael) Huinker of Dubuque, David Marshall of Fort Collins, Colo., and Jason Marshall of Fort Collins, Colo.

Dean was a "great" uncle to 10 great-nieces and -nephews: T.J. Huinker, Jessica Huinker, Tony Huinker, Autumn Huinker, Paul Huinker, Kinsey Cornick, Cameron Cornick, Kendall Cornick, Katrina Cornick and Benjamin Huinker.

Dean Thuente was preceded in death by his father.
