MARIE SABELKA, 92, of SpilIville died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Elma, Iowa, after a long illness.

Funeral Mass will be Friday, Dec. 29 at 12 p.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in SpilIville with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating.

Visitation will be on Friday after 11 a.m. at the church only.

Burial will be in the church cemetery, with Balik Funeral Home of SpilIville
handling arrangements.

There are no immediate survivors. A full obituary will follow.

Marie Sabelka

Marie Sabelka, 92, of SpilIville, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Elma, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in SpilIville at 12 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29, with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating.

Organist was Doris Thompson, and soloist was Dan Silhacek.

Casket bearers were Peter Phillips, Todd Sheridan, Chad Sheridan, Mark
Elsbernd, Dale Elsbernd and Gene Elsbernd.

Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in SpilIville, with arrangements by Balik Funeral Home in SpilIville.

Marie C. Sabelka was born on Dec. 6, 1908 in SpilIville, daughter of Joseph and Mary (Novak) Loesch, and attended school in SpilIville.

She was married to August Sabelka on Sept. 8, 1925 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. They farmed until 1949 when they moved to town.

Marie Sabelka was a lifetime member of St. Wenceslaus Church and enjoyed playing bingo.

Surviving Marie Sabelka are two son-in-laws, James Wallace of Clear Lake and Romuald Elsbernd of Calmar, and a sister-in-law, Angie Loesch of SpilIville; seven grandchildren; Karen Phillips, Mark, Gene and Dale Elsbernd, Todd, Chad and Jill Sheridan and seven greatgrandchildren: Sara and Aaron Phillips, Amy, April, Breelyn, Reid, Ivy, Rachel, Jenny, Craig, Brian, Darin, Nicolas, Jonathan and Jason Elsbernd, and one great-great grandchild, Toni Phillips.

Marie C. Sabelka was preceded in death by her parents, husband August Sabelka in 1995, three daughters, Dorothy Elsbernd, Sister Germaine Sabelka and Beatrice Wallace, one sister, Tillie Korbel and two brothers, Louis Loesch and Phillip Loesch.
