Dolores Brom

Dolores Brom, 76, of Calmar died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisc, from an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating.

Alan Sensor was organist, with music provided by the St. Aloysius Choir.

Casket bearers were Wayne Myhre, Ryan Myhre, Mark Lynch, Lia Myhre, Mark Balik and Charlie Lynch.

Interment was in St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Calmar, with arrangements by French Funeral Home in Calmar.

Dolores M. Brom was born Oct. 18, 1924, the daughter of Anton and Margaret (Klimesh) Balik in Spillville.

She went to grade school in Spillville and then graduated from Iowa City High School.

Dolores Brom attended Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisc. and Upper Iowa College in Fayette.

She married Clarence Brom July 22, 1947 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic School in Spillville.

She taught school at Bellevue, IL for one year, served three years at Calmar Public Schools, and then taught at South Winneshiek from 1966-1981.

She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and enjoyed playing bridge. She was a 50 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as president.

Surviving Dolores Brom are one daughter, Sue and Wayne Myhre of Winona, Minn.; one son, Thomas Brom of Madison, Wisc.; two grandchildren: Lia Myhre of Eden Prairie, Minn, and Ryan Myhre of Winona, Minn.; one brother, Robert and Helen Balik of Spillville; and several nieces and nephews.

Dolores M. Brom was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Brom on Oct. 20, 1999; one son, Dan Brom; her parents; five sisters: Irma Ebert, Viola Carney, Margaret, Marcella and Mildred Balik; and one brother, Stanley Balik.
