Anna Bertha Bohr

Anna Bertha Bohr, 92, of Ossian died Thursday, March 25, 1999, at the Ossian Senior Hospice.

A funeral mass was held Monday, March 29, at 11 a.m., at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, with the Rev. Richard Kuhn officiating.

Al Sensor was the organist. Music was by the St. Francis adult choir and congregational singing.

Lectors were her grandchildren. Offertory gifts were also received by Lucy Schissel, Sister Janet Bohr and Lois Hageman. Altar servers were Justin Bohr, Stephanie Bohr, Nathan Bohr and Jared Bohr.

Casket bearers were Arthur Bohr, Luke Bohr, Tony Schissel, Richard Bohr, Randy Bohr, John C. Bohr, LeRoy Bohr, Lester Hageman and Adam Bohr.

Interment was at the St. Francis Cemetery. The Schmitz Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Anna (Heying) Bohr was born in rural Festina March 23, 1907, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Bodensteiner) Heying.

She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church at Festina and received an education by attending St. Mary's School in Festina

On June 20, 1929, she was united in marriage to John Joseph Bohr at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Church in Festina by the late Rev. Joseph Bohr.

The couple made their home on the family farm west of Ossian, where they raised their family of 13 children. In 1968, they retired and moved to Ossian.

Anna was employed as a cook at the Ossian Senior Hospice for 10 years. Anna and John became residents of the Ossian Senior Hospice Jan. 26, 1999.

She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and was an honorary member of the Rosary Society. She also was a member of the Ossian Senior Citizens Club. Her enjoyment was her family, quilting, flowers and card playing.

Survivors include her husband, John J. Bohr of Ossian; four sons, Arthur Bohr of New Hampton, John C. and Sheila Bohr of Waterloo, Luke and Kathy Bohr of Decorah, and LeRoy and Shirley Bohr of Ossian; three daughters, Lucy and Tony Schissel of New Hampton, Sister Janet Bohr, O.S.F., of Petersburg, and Lois and Lester Hageman of Fort Atkinson; three daughters-in-law, Marilyn Bohr of Ossian, Lorrena Bohr of Waucoma and Annette Bohr of Decorah; one brother, Hilarious and Josephine Heying of West Union; and a sister-in-law, Marie Heying of Granville.

Also surviving are 30 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. The grandchildren are Ron Bohr of Riceville, Alan Bohr of New Hampton, LaVonne Ohm of New Hampton, Scott Bohr of Cedar Rapids, Randy Bohr of Ossian, Michael Bohr of Castalia, Bruce Bohr of Ossian, Michelle Breitsprecher of Castalia, Karla Numedahl of Ossian, Richard Bohr of Waucoma, Loras Schissel of Washington, D.C., Barbara Anderson of Waverly, Greg Schissel of New Hampton, Janice Tank of New Hampton, Ann Schissel of New Hampton, JoAnne Averhoff of Cedar Rapids, Joe Bohr of Cedar Rapids, Jennifer Peterson of Decorah, Jeremy Bohr of Decorah, Jason Bohr of Cresco, Jeff Bohr of Spring Grove, Minn., Julie Buddenberg of Castalia, Kristie Bohr of Ossian, Kevin Bohr of Ossian, Jessica Bohr of Ossian, Mark Hageman of Calmar, Steve Hageman of Fort Atkinson, Kendra Kleve of Spillville, Adam Bohr of Ames and Rob Bohr of Cedar Falls.

Anna Bohr was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Carl Bohr, Mark Bohr and Kenneth Bohr; three daughters, Clarita Bohr, Sister Norma Jean Bohr, O.S.F., and Luella Bohr; two daughters-in-law, Frances Bohr and Janice Bohr; three brothers, Peter Heying, Joseph Heying and Aloysius Heying; five sisters, Mary Reicks, Ida Elsbernd, Margaret Moellers, Hildegard Bohr and Freida Buchheit; three half brothers, Henry Heying, Barney Heying and John Heying; and one half-sister, Lizzie Giesing.
