Hilda Zeta Lechtenberg

Hilda Zeta Lechtenberg, 94, of Calmar died Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Ossian Senior Hospice following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating.

Alan Sensor was organist, with music by the St. Aloysius choir. Carol Havel served as lector.

Hilda Zeta Lechtenberg was born May 28, 1906 to Baptist John and Theresa (Bodensteiner) Blong south of St. Lucas on the family farm.

She attended St. Luke's Catholic School in St. Lucas. After schooling, she worked as a hired girl. She moved to Wilmette, IL and served as a domestic for several years.

She married Alphonse Lechtenberg on June 17, 1947 in St. Lucas. The couple lived in Techney, IL., working at a monastery for five years before moving to Calmar. She then worked at Bucheit Produce in Calmar for 25 years, retiring in 1985.

She enjoyed playing cards, and was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and the Rosary Society.

Survivors include a sister, Ida Lansing of Ossian; one sister-in-law, Rose Lechtenberg of Cedar Rapids; two brothers-in-law, Gus Lechtenberg of Waucoma and Albert Scholbrock of Elma; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hilda Lechtenberg was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alphonse, who died Oct. 5, 1991; three brothers, Julius in infancy, and Frank and Paul Blong; and three sisters, Elizabeth Bruening, Dorothy Scholbrock and Edwina Mihm.
