Vivian Ruth Grinna

Vivian Grinna, 77, of Decorah, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000 at her home following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 23 at 10:30 a.m. at Decorah Lutheran Church, with Rev. James Glesne and Rev. Ole Winter officiating.

Kathy Murray was the organist. Soloists Joe and Aleta Ulring sang "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" and "Children of the Heavenly Father." The congregation sang "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art."

Casket bearers were Scott Grinna, Collin McElree, Steve Grinna, Steve Klemme, Christopher Wilkins and Norbert Bohr.

Interment was at Lutheran Cemetery with the French and Balik Funeral Home of Decorah handling arrangements.

Vivian Ruth Grinna was born July 6, 1923 in Decorah, the daughter of Carl and Inga (Rasmussen) Vick. She was baptized at Decorah Lutheran Church and confirmed on June 13, 1937.

She graduated from Decorah High School in 1941, and married Marlin Grinna on April 15, 1943 at Decorah Lutheran Church.

After they were married, the couple moved to Boston, Mass., and Seattle, Wash., before returning to Decorah in 1946.

Vivian Grinna was a busy mother, always volunteering and doing things for her children. She was active in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Decorah Kilties, Meals on Wheels and Nordic Fest. She was also a lifelong member of Decorah Lutheran Church, helping with church circle, youth groups and teaching Sunday School.

Survivors include her husband, Marlin Grinna of Decorah; two daughters, Linda and Reg Wicks of Annapolis, Md. and Mimi and Dennis Wilkins of Waukon and two sons, John and Cheryl Grinna of Decorah and Jim and Londa Grinna of Decorah.

Additional survivors include 11 grandchildren: Scott and Jill Grinna of Sheboygan, Wisc.; Stacey and Collin McElree of Decorah; Steven Grinna of Decorah; Michelle and John Kapral of Annapolis; Paul and Melissa Wicks of Olney, Md.; Russell and Trine Wicks of Odenton, Md.; Christopher Wilkins of Waukon; Heather Wilkins of Waukon; Elizbeth Wilkins of Waukon; Steve Klemme of Decorah and Parker Grinna of Decorah.

Also surviving are four great-granddaughters: Kelsey, Abigail and Kjersten Grinna and Mackenzie Kapral, one sister, Adeline and Lance Lillibridge of Decorah, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Vivian Ruth Grinna was preceded in death by her parents.
