John "Bert" Wold
John "Bert" Wold, 81, died Sunday, Oct. 15 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 1:30 p.m. at the French and Balik Funeral Home in Decorah with Rev. Ole Winter officiating.
Interment is in the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah.
Kathy Murray, organist and Wayne Mitchell, soloist, provided music, including "How Great Thou Art" and "On Eagle's Wings."
John Bertram "Bert" Wold was born June 10, 1919 in Madison Township, rural Decorah, to Theodore and Annie (Bossel) Wold. He attended school
in Winneshiek County and worked at the Dotseth Bakery in Decorah.He married Irma Balk on Jan. 3, 1941 in Waukon.
He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, his vegetable garden and especially his grandchildren. He was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Alice Iverson and Cheryl Jirak and husband Steve, Decorah; three sons, Larry Wold, Coralville, Donald Wold and wife Connie, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Wayne Wold of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Idella Onsager, Decorah and Doris Tyler, Davenport; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
John Wold was preceded in death by his parents; wife Irma in 1976; one son and one daughter in infancy; son-in-law Don Iverson; two brothers, Ted and Art Wold; and two sisters, Myrtle Quandahl and Eldora Wold.
