Alfred 'Blackie' Pavlovec

Alfred "Blackie" Pavlovec, 78, of Calmar, died Tuesday, Sept 28, 1999, at his home, after a long illness.

A funeral mass was held Friday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m., at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, with the Rev. Donald Hawes officiating.

Music was by the St. Aloysius adult choir.

Casket bearers were Stan Lennon, Ronnie Hageman, Bobby Joe Klimesh, Tim Einck, Pete Meyer and Ed Hackman. Honorary bearers were members of the Halverson-Giesen American Legion Post No. 266 of Calmar.

Interment was at the St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery. The French Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Alfred was born Feb. 5, 1921, the son of Frank and Stella (Jirak) Pavlovec at Fort Atkinson. He attended Fort Atkinson Schools.

Alfred served in the United States Army from 1942-46.

On Feb. 11, 1950, he was united in marriage to Iva Nell Junk at St. Luke's Church in St. Lucas.

Alfred 'Blackie' lived in Calmar and drove a bulk oil truck for Iowa Oil Co. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and a 55-year member of the Calmar American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie; one son, Robert of Calmar; one daughter, Sue Koshatka of Spillville; three grandchildren, Kim, Kelly and Ryan Koshatka; and two brothers, Gerald Pavlovec of Decorah and Bernard Pavlovec in Hawaii.

Alfred "Blackie" Pavlovec was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leonard and Francis; and one sister, Marcella.
