Michael Allen Szabo, son of Victor Ervin and Patricia Ann (Reilly) Szabo, was born May 22, 1970, in the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics at Iowa City, Iowa. He died Tuesday, January 10, 1995 in Allamakee County.
He was baptized at Cedar Rapids, Iowa and was confirmed in St. Bridget Catholic Church at Postville. He graduated from Postville Community Schools in 1989. During his school years, he participated in wrestling and football. He worked on the farm with his brother-in-law and sister. Michael also showed cattle at the Postville and Decorah Fairs.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia, his step-mother, Shirley, his paternal grandparents, Steve and Laura Szabo and his maternal grandmother, Delphene Reilly.
Surviving is his father, Victor, of Castalia, three sisters, Victoria Lynn (David) Svendsen of Castalia, Dina Szabo and significant other, Steven Peterman of Cedar Rapids, IA, Lisa (Michael) Heins of Postville, a brother Shannon Szabo of Cedar Rapids, two step-brothers, Randall (Molly) Cook of Cedar Rapids and Curtis (Suzie) Cook of St. Paul, MN, two step-sisters, Teresa (Garet) Wyatt of Sioux Falls, SD and Anita (Teryl) Subbert of Cedar Rapids and his maternal grandparents, Claire and Delores Reilly of Ossian, Iowa.
Funeral services for Michael Szabo were held Friday, January 13, 1995 at 11 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia, Iowa. The Reverend H. W. Wolfgram officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Bloomfield Cemetery at Castalia. Casket bearers were Joey Schnuelle, Guy Schultz, Kevin Smith, Greg Szabo, Gary Brown, Larry Smith and Charles Terry Brown.
