William "Bill" Charles Hall

William "Bill" Charles Hall, 78, of Decorah, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis., after a long illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m., at Decorah Lutheran Church. The Revs. James Grindeland, Tim Tostengard and Ole
Winter officiated. Diane Kvamme was the organist. Andrew Lamb was the pianist.

Casket bearers were Randy Finholt, James Grindeland, Tom Burreson, Milford Nelson, Lester Ode and Jimmy Peterson.

Interment was at the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. The French & Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.

William was born Nov. 8, 1920, to parents Lorenzo and Sarah (Frost) Hall in Lime Springs. He was baptized Nov. 24, 1941, in the Methodist Church in Decorah and confirmed by the Rev. M. A. Egge at Decorah Lutheran Church Sept.15, 1946.

On Dec. 5, 1941, (two days before the Pearl Harbor bombing), Bill Hall and Orbell Grindeland were united in marriage at her home.

They joined Decorah Lutheran Church in June of 1946. Bill was in the United States Army and a member of the V.F.W. He worked for many years for Skelly Oil Co. in Decorah.

Survivors include his wife, Orbell of Decorah; one son, Gary and Norma Hall of Decorah; two grandchildren, Michael Hall and fiancee Marti Lamb, and Scott and Mary Hall; four great grandchildren, Alexandria, Douglas, Megan and Lauren Hall; two future great-grandchildren, Laura and Andrew Lamb; one sister, Dorothy Woldum of Piriellas Park, Fla.; and one brother, Dale Hall of Waterloo.

Bill Hall was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Glen Hall; and two daughters in infancy.
