KOBRIGER, Elsie Luella (McMartin) -- 1876 - 1959

Elsie Luella McMartin was born on a farm near Castalia, October 17, 1876, the daughter of Daniel and Julia Brush McMartin. She resided at Castalia all of her life except for the past two years when she made her home with her son, Donald and family in Waterloo, where she passed away on June 3, at the age of 82 years, seven months and 16 days.

She was united in marriage to George J. Kobriger on April 19, 1899. To this union were born, seven children: Florence, Mrs. N. A. Nelson of Decorah; Julia, Mrs. William Wedo of Castalia; Marjorie, Mrs. Elmer Hager of Castalia; Ione, Mrs. Clarence Hoopman of Decorah; Daniel of Davenport; Donald of Waterloo; Mildred, Mrs. Arnold Tieskoetter of Preston, Minnesota.

Besides her children, she leaves to mourn her passing: one sister, Mrs. Martha Dresser of Boise, Idaho; two brothers, Frank McMartin, Flandreau, South Dakota and Elmer McMartin of Castalia; 25 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was educated in the rural schools near her home and for many years worked as a seamstress. She was a member of Zion Lutheran church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, two brothers, her husband, two grandchildren and one great grandson.

Funeral services were Saturday, June 6, at 2:00 at the Zion Lutheran church, with the Rev. Meinen, officiating. Burial was in Bloomfield cemetery. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge.

Relatives attending from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Jay Ryan of Grinnell, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Ryan and Mr. and Mrs. Homer Ryan and son, Brooklyn, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Hoopman, Mr. and Mrs. LuVern Neste, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Henry, all of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Clarence Hawkins and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hawkins of Waucoma, Mrs. Weston Sampson of Lynxville, Wisconsin, Mr. and Mrs. Arno Tieskoetter and Richard of Preston, Minnesota and many relatives and friends from Waucoma, Decorah, Ossian, Cresco, Postville, Castalia and Clermont.
