Milfred Kenneth Ney

Milfred Kenneth Ney of Ossian died Tuesday, April 18, 2000 at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian after a lingering illness. He was 92 years old.

Milfred was born on January 5, 1908 in rural Dover Township, Fayette County, Eldorado, Iowa, to Frank and Julia (Saboe) Ney. He was baptized and confirmed in his faith at the Norwegian Lutheran church of Eldorado. Milfred obtained his education by attending Dover #4 Township Country School in Fayette County.

On November 9, 1935, he was united in marriage to Emma Henrietta Quass at Stavanger Lutheran Church, rural Ossian, by the late Rev. Kr. Kvamme. They established their home on the Ney home farm north of Eldorado.

To their union five children were born. In 1982 they retired and moved into Ossian. Emma died on May 26, 1998 and Milfred continued to live in his own home until July 1, 1998. At that time, he entered the Ossian Senior Hospice and lived there until his death.

Milfred was a well-known farmer in the community. He was a member of Stavanger Lutheran Church and served as a trustee on the church council. His grandchildren were "high lights" of his life and he also enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Survivors include: four sons, Kenneth Ney and his wife, Karen of Ossian, IA; Lyle Ney and his wife, Vicky of West Union, IA; Stanley (Skip) Ney and his wife, Geri of Ossian, IA; and Dennis Ney and his wife, Rosie; and a daughter, Diane Granger of West Union, IA.

Also surviving are 14 grandchildren: Karla and her husband, Terry Gossing; Konnie and her husband, Mike Elsbernd; Kendall Ney; Kraig Ney, Kendra and her husband, Joel Hageman; Lee Ney and his wife, Theresa; Lisa Ney and her fiance, Chris McLellan; Mike Ney and his wife, Vicki; Lynn Ney; Mark Ney and his wife, Denise; David Granger; Daryl Granger; Bobbi Jo Ney; and Darin Ney; 15 great grandchildren, Nick Roth, Tremaine Robinson, Taylor Granger, Tristin Granger, Cody Hageman, Macauley Hageman, Blake Hageman, Dylan Ney, Chase Ney, Brady Ney, Allison Ney, Kenzie Elsbernd, Derek Elsbernd, Kartann Elsbernd, Jonathan Gossing; two sisters-in-law Mildred Quass and Esther Quass; a brother-in-law, Leo Peterson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Emma; a granddaughter Kimberly Ney; twin granddaughters in infancy; a sister, Frances Gross; two brothers-in-law; Richard Gross and Albert Quass; and a sister-in-law, Julia Peterson.

Funeral services were held April 22, 2000 at Stavanger Lutheran Church, rural Ossian, with Rev. Cindy Arndt officiating with interment at Stavanger Lutheran Cemetery, Ossian, IA.

Casket bearers were Mike Ney, Kraig Ney, Mark Ney. Lee Ney, Kendall Ney, Darin Ney, Dave Granger, Daryl Granger.
