Brother John J. Haug, Great Lights Lodge No. 181, Decorah, departed from this life at Concordia Hospital, Milwaukee, Wis., February 20, 1930, at the age of ninety-eight years. He was born in 1832 in Switzerland. He came to the United States in the spring of 1854 and took up land adjoining the present town of Spillville, Winneshiek County, and until the year 1918 resided there. Brother Haug was the first postmaster of that town and for thirty years thereafter. He also engaged in mercantile pursuits, was Justice of the Peace and a member of the Board of supervisors of the county. He was initiated, passed and raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason on May 24, 1877, and in 1927 he was granted his fifty-year certificate.
