Funeral services for Gladys Lundy were held Thursday, may 8, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. in the Hauge Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa. The Reverend John Mayer officiated. Casket bearers were: Lyle Taylor, Craig Nelson, Jay Jermier, Brent Halverson, Michael Taylor, Nicholas Taylor. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Gladys (nee Olson) Lundy was born November 20, 1919 to Henry Olson and Mary (nee Loftsgard) Olson, in Luverne, Minnesota. The family moved to Sandborn, North Dakota and then to Clermont, Iowa. She passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2003, in the Oneota Riverview Care Center in Decorah, Iowa. She had reached the age of 83 years, 5 months, and 16 days.
Gladys graduated from the Clermont High School in 1938. Following graduation, she moved to Decorah to live with her brother and work in a restaurant. On April 12, 1939, Gladys was married to Walter Raymond Lundy at Decorah, Iowa. To this union three children were born. They farmed near Clermont for three years and in 1942 they moved to a farm north of Decorah, where they lived all their lives. In addition to working on the farm with her husband, Gladys was employed at the Decorah Greenhouse for 19 years. She also loved to sew and quilt.
She had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Postville for ten years and then moved to the Oneota Care Facility, where she has lived for the past three years.
Gladys was a member of the Hauge Lutheran Church for the past 60 years. She served as Sunday School Superintendent and taught Sunday School and was active in the Women's organization.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter, who died in 1987, two brothers, Richard Olson and Harold Olson, one sister, Myrtle, and two grandchildren, Michelle and Bradley Halverson.
Survivors include three children, Dale (Norma) Lundy, Donna Halverson, all of Decorah, and Duane Lundy of Des Moines, IA, grandchildren: Suzanne (Lyle) Taylor, Krisanne (Craig) Nelson, Richelle (Jay) Jermier, Brent (Jill) Halverson, Dana Halverson, and Joel Halverson; great grandchildren: Michail Taylor, Nicholas Taylor, Megan Taylor, Alexis Nelson, Madelyn Jermier, and Leslie Halverson.
Also surviving are four brothers, Vernon (Phyllis) Olson of Decorah, Elmer Olson of Clermont, and Leonard (Lorraine) Olson and Glen Olson, all of California.
