In memoriam - Claire and Julie Street
(from the Friends and Neighbors newsletter from the Hesper Friends Meeting, March 1979)

Hesper Fiends and friends were saddened by the death of Claire and Julie Street in a car-truck crash Wednesday, February 7 (1979), as they returned home from Pastors' Short Course. The accident happened at the intersection of highways 101 and 150, about 14 miles north of Vinton, Iowa.

Claire and Julie, along with Claire's father Guilford Street, had served as pastors for Hesper Meeting since 1972 and their ministry was appreciated by many. Their commitment to Christ and their concern for souls were very real and they sought to share God's love in a variety of ways.

Funeral services for Claire and Julie were held Saturday afternoon February 10 at the Hesper Friends Meeting House, with Iowa Yearly Meeting Superintendence Mahlon Macy officiating. David Brown, pastor of Valton Friends (Wisconsin), Julie's home meeting, offered the opening prayer. Reverend Bernhardt Polesky, pastor of the Hesper Lutheran Church, read the scripture, and Stephen Main, pastor at LeGrand Fiends Church and president of the Yearly Meeting Pastors' Association, led the prayer.

Special music was furnished by Dolores Nash, who played and sang one of Julie's favorite songs, "Because He Lives," and Shirley and Cynthia Floyd who sang "Beyond the Sunset." Burial was in the Hesper Public Cemetery.

Special thanks are due the Hesper Lutheran women who served lunch to the family and friends from a distance the day of the funeral, the Mabel (Minnesota)United Methodist women who brought a meal to the family at the parsonage, the Hesper Friends and Lutheran women, who cared for the lunch after the funeral, and all the other individuals and groups who provided caring, food, and comfort for the bereaved families. God bless you all!
