Norbert Einck

Norbert Einck, age 80, of Festina died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006 at the Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union surrounded by his family, following a lingering illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Dec. 30 at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina. Monsignor Cletus Hawes presided over the service. Casketbearers were Chris Heins, Jarret Einck, Darren Einck, Lee Einck, Nathan Einck, and Josh Lechtenberg. All of Norbert's grandchildren and great-grandchildren's families were honorary casketbearers. Interment was at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Cemetery, Festina.

Norbert Frank Einck was born November 20, 1926, on the family farm south of Festina, to Theodore and Julitta (Huinker) Einck. He was baptized in his faith by Father Rubly at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina and received his education in Festina.

August 28, 1951, Norbert was united in marriage to Rosaria Wurzer at St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Lucas. To this union, seven children were born: Barb, Steve, Dave, Joe, Mike, Therese and John. Norbert and Rosaria farmed the "Einck Century Farm" until 1985, when they moved to their present home. Norbert loved farming and helping his sons farm. He received the Winneshiek Pioneer Dairyman Award in 1987.

Norbert enjoyed playing baseball with the Festina baseball team. He was an avid fan of the Chicago White Sox, the Minnesota Vikings, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the UNI Panthers. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and all their sports and activities with the South Winn Warriors, North Fayette Hawks, Waukon Indians and Postville Pirates. He also enjoyed traveling, golfing and fishing.

Norbert was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, the Rosary Society, The Catholic Order of the Foresters, the church choir, and served on the church council. He served as a director for the Federal Land Bank and was a member of the South Winn Country Club and the Winneshiek County Farm Bureau.

Norbert's survivors include his wife, Rosaria Einck, Festina; two daughters Barb (Mike) Heins, West Union, and Therese (Gary) Lechtenberg, Postville; four sons Steve (Marilyn) Einck, Festina, Dave (Nancy) Einck, Waukon, and Joe (Cindy) Einck and Mike (Tammy) Einck, both of Festina; twenty-three grandchildren, two great grandsons and two step-great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Don Kipp, Festina, Alice Einck, Rochester, MN, Helen Wenthold, Ossian, Marcella Wurzer, Lawler, Sis Wurzer, Hawkeye, Carl Wurzer, Lawler, Sister Theophane Wurzer, Lowell, MI, Alvina Hemesath, Calmar, Alma Hemesath, Ossian, Doris and Alvin Smith, Ft. Atkinson, Florian and Irma Hageman, Lawler, and Francis and Margaret Wurzer, St. Lucas.

Norbert was preceded in death by his parents; son John Einck in 1962; brother Louis Einck in 1984; sisters Mildred Wenthold in 1960 and Marie Kipp in 2005; brother-in-law Herb Wenthold in 2000; and brothers and sisters-in-law Tony Wurzer, Edwin Wurzer, Alvin Wurzer, Lorraine Wurzer, Carolyn Wurzer, Lorelei Wurzer, Romie Kuennen, Ann Kuennen, Ed Hemesath, Jim Murray and Charles Hemesath.
