Double funeral held for accident victims
A double funeral service for Gregory J. Doherty, 24 of 501 Decorah Avenue, and Allyn D. Brenno, of Byron, Minn., was held Tuesday, Oct. 9, 1979, at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Plymouth Rock.
The two men, who were brothers-in-law, were killed in an auto accident three miles west of Burr Oak Saturday evening, Oct. 6. The Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Monday at Steine Funeral Home.
Father Donald Hawes, Father Albert T.Perrlzo, and Pastor Alden H. Hovda conducted the services, and burial was in St. Agnes Cemetery. Alan Sensor was orgarijst and accompanied soloist DavidJudisch.
Gregory J. Doherty:
Pallbearers were Gary Lukes, Fred Leonhar, Dennis Tweten, Ralph Milligan, John Houdek and John Logsdon.
Mr. Doherty was born Sept. 20, 1955 in Howard County to Leo and Helen Doherty.
He attended North Winneshiek School graduating with the class of 1974.
He was married June 25, 1977 at the the Decorah Lutheran Church to ReJene Boe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Boe, Decorah.
Mr. Doherty had always lived in the Canton and Decorah area and at the time of his death was employed as a machinist at Camcar.
He is survived by his mother, Helen Doherty of R 1, Canton; his wife ReJene; a son Peter, at home; two brothers, Carroll Doherty, Harmony, Minn. and Robert Doherty of Fountain, Minn. and four sisters, Connie (Mrs. John Mahoney), Independence, Ia., Beth (Mrs. Allyn Brenno), Byron,Minn., Kay (Mrs. Joseph Kubik), Newport News, Va., and Colleen (Mrs. Gerald Milz), Lime Springs, Ia.
Gregory J. Doherty was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.
Allyn D. Brenna:
Pallbearers were Jem Patton, Donald Halverson, Robert Cox, Merton McKay, Richard Schlettey and David Enquist.
Mr. Brenno was born April 14, 1946 in Lanesboro, Minn. to Myrtle and Orlie Brenno who live in Mable, Minn.
He attended Canton High School graduating with the class of 1964.
He was married to Beth Doherty, daughter of Mrs. Helen Doherty of Canton, Minn., Aug. 28, 1965 at St. Agnes Church.
His wife and parents survive as well as three children, Lisa, Michelle and Krista Brenno, at home; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ole Blagsvedt of Rochester, Minn., and his paternal grandmother Mrs. Maybelle Brenno of Mabel, Minn., and a sister Lu Ann Brenno of Minneapolis.
Mr. Brenno was an insurance agent in Rochester, Minn. He had lived on a farm north of Canton, served three years in the armed forces stationed in Germany, returned from overseas duty to live in Rochester, Minn. and presently was living in Byron, Minn.
He was a member of the Christ the King Catholic Church in Byron and belonged to the Elks Lodge, The Eagles, the VFW, the American Legion and the Jaycees, all in Rochester.
