The Baker Golden Wedding.
The happy completion of fifty years of wedded life by Col. and Mrs. W. T. Baker, was duly celebrated by a family reunion on the evening of the l5th. There were present all the sons (except Wm. V., the eldest,) Mrs. Lloyd, the only daughter, two daughters-in-law, four grand-daughters and one grandson. In the evening the circle was joined by members of the family of John T. Baker. The intervening years since this marriage have been eventful ones. The earlier ones were spent in India, where Col. Baker was an officer, and won his rank by service in the Sepoy mutiny The latter one half has been one of serene quietness and enjoyment in their Iowa home, where their children have grown up about them into useful, active citizens and members of society.
Numerous remembrances, and handsome presents, were received from absent friends. One of the presents was unique, being an original poem by a friend of the family, who is also an artist. The poem was appropriate in sentiment and beautifully painted in gold. The celebration was an event long to be remembered by all who participated.
