A GOLDEN WEDDING.
Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus McKay celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage.
Sunday, May 24th, 1846. Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus McKay, of this city, were married at Columbus, Pa. It is a noteworthy coincidence that the fiftieth anniversary of the event occurred on the same day of the week. The fact of their having passed a half century of life together become known to their friends, and on Sunday afternoon last members of the Masonic and Eastern Star lodges to the number of sixty surprised them at their home on Winnebago street. As tokens of their esteem they brought with them a gold headed cane for Mr. McKay and a gold handled umbrella for Mrs. McKay. The presentation was made by Rev. A. G. Wilson, after which the company sat down to coffee, ice cream and cake, which were served on the lawn.
On Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. McKay were again surprised, this time by members of the G. A. R., W. R. C. and S. of V., who left with them a handsome set of gold-band dishes. Handsome as these gifts are, the esteem and friendship which prompted their giving are valued much more highly.
Mr. and Mrs. McKay have been residents of Decorah since the fall of 1858. They came to the county two years previous, making their home at Freeport. With the exception of four years spent at Spencer they have occupied their present home on Winnebago street, and no other place has ever been home to them. Best of all is, that though they may be old in years they are yet young enough in spirit to enjoy still a long sojourn among us. The REPUBLICAN joins their other friends in hearty congratulations.
