A November Wedding.
An event occurred in West Decorah, last Thursday evening, which goes to prove that romance never dies. We refer to the marriage of Mr. Philip Husted, or “Uncle Phil,” as he is best known to his neighbors and friends, and Mrs. Jane Corbett, sister of Mr. John Crawford, of Orleans township, and cousin of Mr. Harry Crawford, of West Decorah, which occurred at the home of the groom; Rev. A. G. Wilson, of Unity church, officiating. Years ago, back in Canada, when the bride and groom were young, they were engaged to be married, but difficulty arose between their families and the engagement was broken, each to go their own way. Both married and the whirligig of time found them eventually living not many miles apart in northeastern Iowa. A few weeks ago they met at the home of the bride’s brother in Orleans township; the memories of the days long past were recalled, and both found a pleasure in the contemplation of spending their declining years in a union of hearts, with the attending joys and sorrows. The ceremony of last Thursday evening was the result of this meeting. About a score of guests were present and under a beautiful horseshoe of roses and an arch of smilax the knot was tied. A delicious and bountiful wedding supper was served and the evening was pleasantly spent in celebration of the event. There were numerous callers during the evening, and while their visit was quite demonstrative it was sincere and kindly meant, and each one had the privilege of extending congratulations and enjoying the hospitality of the bride and groom.
The kindest wishes for years of peace, happiness and contentment come from all sources to “Uncle Phil.” Husted and his wife.
