On the 15th, the lawn about “Sunny Bank House,” was lively with a jolly party of picnickers, the occasion being the 20th anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Cameron. The lately married couple had been invited to dine with the family of B. M. Carter, and “unbeknownst” to them, about three-score others, more or less, had also been invited, and the result was one of the pleasantest “surprises” of the season. These anniversaries are the occasion of many reminiscences, and during the afternoon, Mrs. Clara Battey remarked: “I am the only person present who was at both the weddings in the early sixties.” The reference was to when J. L. Cameron was married to Cynthia Worth, and William Johnson was married to Mary E. Aldrich. The resting places of William Johnson and Cynthia Cameron are both marked with a flag and wreath, each 30th day of May, she having served as an enlisted nurse, in the hospital at Jefferson Barracks, Mo., in which Comrade Cameron was a steward, and he, 1st sergeant Co. E., 38th, Iowa, died of sickness in the far South.
