A SILVER WEDDING.
Mr. and Mrs. John B. Kaye, of Calmar, Celebrate this event in Their Lives.
Naturally “Calmarics” could not report this event as does the Calmar Courier in its issue of Saturday last. We copy from the Courier:—
Last Saturday evening in response to invitations from Mr. and Mrs. John B. Kaye, about 150 guests assembled at the fine residence of the above mentioned most worthy couple, to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.
The evening was very pleasantly spent. The entire house was opened up for the pleasure of the guests, the scene being enlivened by excellent music by the Calmar Mandolin Club. The host and hostess were presented with some fine silverware, Prof. Coffeen, with well chosen and appropriate remarks, making the presentation speech which was responded to by Mr. Kaye and his wife. During the evening the Calmar Cornet Band appeared on the premises and serenaded the couple. At twelve o’clock the guests departed, all having had a very enjoyable time. John B. Kaye came to Calmar Jan. 1872, a single man. In Feb. of the same year he was admitted to the bar, and in March was elected town attorney. His birth place is Lake Geneva, Wis., where he spent his boyhood days. On April 10th, 1872, he was wedded to Miss Fanny Green, with whom he had been acquainted from her babyhood, they having been schoolmates from their youth. This couple took up their abode in Calmar in their little cottage home which they occupied for 23 years (building several additions as the family increased,) living in domestic peace and happiness, and there their nine children, all of whom are living, were born, —and right here we wish to say that a nicer family would be hard to find. The eldest daughter Miss Gertrude now occupies a position as teacher in the Calmar school. Two years ago a fine, large modern residence was erected on North street, which they now occupy, and although the new homo is grand, the old home has a place in the hearts of the family that can not be supplanted by the new one.
All these years Mr. Kaye has shown himself to be a conscientious attorney, working up a lucrative law practice in the county. He at one time filled the position of County Attorney. He is a public spirited man, and always prominent in all public enterprises.
Mrs. Kaye is one among a thousand, a great home-loving woman and a model housekeeper, extremely kind and a devout Christian.
May they pass their golden wedding day among us is the expressed wish of their friends.
