On Friday last occurred the thirty-second anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Headington. Mr. H had arranged to go quite a distance on that day for a load of sand, and as this was to be a surprise, it was quite necessary to keep him at home, so he was told over the phone that a cattle buyer would call on him in the early part of the day to buy his fat steers. Will Peacock, his neighbor, feeling a great pity for him, that he had been hindered in getting the sand, went over and told him that he would go with him and got two loads instead of one, and they would start at 12 o’clock. While waiting for his early dinner Mr. Headington saw teams coming from the east and said to his son, “That looks like a funeral procession, and the man, with the front team is Florell Potter. I’m going out to ask him who is dead.” Florell, being somewhat hard of hearing, didn’t hear him, and drove in at the open gate, the rest following. But even then Jake couldn’t take the hint, till they commenced to unload, and every woman had a basket. He was struck dumb, but soon his chattering string was loosened and Well! it is no use to try to tell it. Mr. and Mrs. Headington were equal to the occasion. Over a hundred guests sat down to dinner, besides the children, which were not a few. It didn’t need a miracle to multiply the loaves and fishes to feed the multitude, for there were more than twelve baskets of fragments gathered after the feast. Roy Thompson, in a few well chosen words, presented the bride and groom an elegant bed room suite that cost as many dollars as they had been years married, and after offering prayers the company were allowed to congratulate. It was a very enjoyable time, and was the universal wish that this couple might live to celebrate many returns of the day Mr. Headington didn’t go after sand.
