Wedding Anniversary.
Burr Oak, July 16, 1900.
This part of Winnesheik Co. Is becoming noted for wedding anniversary surprises. The last victim was W. W. Bandle and wife, whose peaceful residence on the Midway was invaded last Wednesday afternoon, July 11th, by about seventy of their neighbors and friends from the head waters of Silver Creek to near the mouth of the Big Canoe,—old and young and middle aged, male and female. The first arrivals enquired for "W. W.” and were informed that he was busy in the hay field. A messenger was dispatched to invite him home and upon his arrival he found a goodly company assembled on his well kept lawn, enjoying themselves in social intercourse and swapping stories.
It took him some little time to recover from his surprise before he could enter fully into the enjoyment of the affair. When the time arrived the good wives, in imitation of Johnny Gilpin’s wife of old, although on pleasure bent, had a frugal mind and had provided a bountiful supply of the good things of life to satisfy the cravings of the inner man. Before partaking of the repast a nice bed room set was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Bandle as a reminder of their forty-second anniversary.
