HYMENEAL.
During the past week Decorah has been interested in a romance which culminated yesterday when Miss Kristina Siewers, second daughter of Prof. and Mrs. L. Siewers, became the bride of Mr. Oscar Parviainen, a wealthy young foreigner whose parental home is at Helsingfors, Finland. The friends of the bride and the family are all the more interested in that they cherish for her a love and esteem that will follow her as she goes to her far-away home and ever be among the sweetest memories of life.
The courtship of Miss Siewers and Mr. Parviainen began in Paris where she was a student in voice culture and languages and he was developing his tastes in art. Acquaintance ripened into mutual admiration and love and was followed by a visit to her lover’s home in the far north. Then came the announcement of their engagement. Their marriage was not to occur for a year but Mr. Parviainen decided that an earlier date would be much more preferable and he persuaded his mother to give her consent to the marriage at this time. The groom arrived in New York last Thursday on the Deutschland and reached Decorah Monday afternoon.
The wedding of Miss Siewers and Mr. Parviainen occurred yesterday morning and was witnessed by members of the family and a few very intimate friends. In the afternoon a reception was held which was attended by a large number.
From reports in the daily papers, probably given by Mr. Parviainen himself, we learn that he is the son of very wealthy parents, his father being engaged in the petroleum trade to which the mother succeeded upon the death of her husband several years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Parviainen will depart soon for Finland where they will pay a visit to the mother and then go to London where they will continue their studies for the coming year.
