CELEBRATES GOLDEN WEDDING
~
Mr. and Mrs. P. B. Halvorson Married
Fifty Years Ago Today.
~
At the home of the bride and groom of fifty years ago, at their home today on Washington Street in this city, occurs the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. P. B. Halvorson, and relatives and friends have gathered to extend congratulations and good wishes.

The bride of fifty years ago came to America with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Skaim, in 1852 and in the spring of 1853 came to Winneshiek County, settling to Glenwood Township. The groom arrived with his parents in the spring of 1853 and that fall they came to Winneshiek County, settling in Glenwood in the fall of 1853.

On Dec. 8, 1865, they were united in marriage, at the Washington Prairie Cheech by the late Dr. Wilhelm Koren, and the home was in Glenwood until 14 years ago, when they came to Decorah to live.

In 1861 the groom enlisted in the services of Uncle Sam in Co. B. Third, Iowa, in the Civil War, serving for three years, and re-enlisted during the remainder of the war, being mustered out July 14, 1865.

Mr. and Mrs. Halvorson were blessed with a family of ten children, six boys and four girls, all of whom are living, besides twenty-two grandchildren. They are Mrs. John Syslak, Glenwood Township; Andrew, Glassgow, Mont.; John, Miles City, Mont.; Mrs. Ole Honsey, Cantour, Canada; Ben, Bruce, Mont.; Mrs. Hans Sivisind, Decorah; Henry, Decorah; Otto, Bruce, Mont.; Theodore, Decorah and Mrs. K. B. Vaaler, Duluth, Minn.

Only five of the children are in attendance today at the anniversary. They are Mrs. Syslak, Mrs. Sivisind, Henry, Theodore and Mrs. Vaaler and husband. Besides the children a number was either relatives or friendsin attendance at the celebration. The happy bride and groom of fifty-years ago are still young in spirit, and enjoy the respect nd esteem of a large number, and we join with them in extending congratulations and best wishes to the estimable couple, and hope they will celebrate many more anniversaries together.
