MARRIED FIFTY YEARS.
Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Emory Celebrate Their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
Fifty years ago last Friday, July 11, Mr. O. W. Emory and Miss Martha McIntire were united in marriage in Canoe township. They went onto a farm in the same township where they lived for forty-three years. Here a family of fifteen children was born to them, nine boys and six girls. Three have died, but the others have grown to manhood and womanhood and are all married. In 1893, Mr. and Mrs. Emory moved to Decorah where they now reside. The fiftieth anniversary of their marriage was celebrated last Friday. The guests began to arrive at ten o’clock, and when all had assembled, there were over eighty gathered. All of the children were present except one daughter who was prevented from coming by an accident to one of her children. The children who enjoyed the celebration were Leonard and wife, Aaron and wife, Ezra and wife, Andrew and wife, Mrs. Ida Stoskopf and husband, Mrs. Lillie McMullen, Mrs. Esta Askelson, Earnest and wife, George and wife. Frank and wife. Mrs. Martha Nelson and husband. Twenty-three grand children were present. Among other guests were Rev. J. M. Dick and family of Burr Oak. A bountiful dinner was served, with ice cream and cake later. After dinner, the guests gathered in little knots and spent the time in conversation until about three o’clock when they all assembled in the parlor and sitting room. Rev. J. M. Dick read the 103 Psalm and offered prayer, after which the couple joined hands as they did fifty years ago and Pastor J. W. Allen pronounced the golden wedding ceremony. Hearty congratulations and wishes for prosperity were given by all present, and the party engaged in singing a number of gospel hymns led by Brother Dick Many valuable presents were received, among them a reclining chair for the father, a beautiful rocker for the mother, a fine couch, a set of table and sideboard ware, all from the children: a center piece made by Mr. Emory’s sister over eighty years old, besides numerous other beautiful souvenirs of the occasion.
