On Sunday, August 7th, Mr. and Mrs. Charles O. Moore, 707 West Water street, Decorah, had been married 60 years. To commemorate the event 111 relatives gathered at their home, completely surprised them, and turned the day into a gala event. They brot excellent food for both noon and evening meals. There were chicken, lefse, cakes, pies, and other delicacies. Among those from a distance were the Lund and Hendrickson families of Albert Lea and the Childs family of Urbana, Iowa. Many photographs were taken.
Charles O. Moore and Miss Gustava Erickson were married at Springwater, north of Decorah, August 7, 1867. From that time until 1911 they lived on the Moore farm northwest of Decorah. Sixteen years ago they moved to Decorah and have lived on west Water street during those years.
They have been the parents of three children, Ida (Mrs. Frank Jewell), who died in 1920, Dr. Henry Richard Moore, who died about 20 years ago, and Louis Moore, who now is rural mail carrier on route two out of Decorah.
Mr. and Mrs. Moore are among the very earliest surviving settlers of Winneshiek County. Mr. Moore was born March 30, 1845 in Boone County, Illinois, and came to Winneshiek County in 1850, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James R. Moore. His father bot the Moore farm of the government in that year, when all there was in Decorah was the Day "stopping place," later known as the Winneshiek hotel, and one or two other shacks in the vicintiy. From 1850 till 1911 Charlie Moore's home was on the farm that his father bot of the government.
Mrs. Moore was born in Hakedalen, near Oslo, Norway, May 16, 1850. She came to America in 1853 with her parents and they settled first on Washington Prairie, later moving to the Springwater neighborhood.
During their long residence in this county, Mr. and Mrs. Moore have earned the affection of numerous friends and the love of relatives. It is the sincere wish of all that they may continue for many years to enjoy the good health with which they now are blessed.
