PIONEER DAYS-HESPER TOWNSHIP 1851-1941

David and his wife Mary may well be classified among the early settlers in Hesper. In 1883, Mary Chase opened a dry goods and grocery store in the village, the building where Mr. E. J. Wold conducts his store. Time previous she had had a little shop in her residence, then known as the "Ten Cent Counter." David and Mary Chase were given two children: a son Fred and a daughter Mrs. John Bernatz, who now lives in Decorah.
