PIONEER DAYS-HESPER TOWNSHIP 1851-1941
Remington Aldrich, one of our earliest settlers, was united in holy bonds to Phoebe Thayor on December 1, 1830, a native of Blackstone, Mass. In 1853 they came to Hesper. They were parents of one daughter, Mary, who later became the wife of James Cameron. She started a sunday school class in the Aldrich home in the spring of 1859, with six young ladies, and continued until there were 30 members, both boys and girls. This was the first Sunday school in Hesper, although there were Friends and Methodist meeting.
Tiddeman Aldrich, a brother of Remington, was an early shoemaker at Hesper. He was born March 31, 1825. He married Rebecca Cornell on January 1, 1846, and they had three children, Walter, Mary, and Ruby. Mary was married to Philip McCalley in 1866. This marriage was short as she passed away in 1871. Ruby, who was born in 1853, married Edwin Hoag, in William Cook's house at Hesper in the year 1879. Walter died in childhood.
Rebecca Cornell Aldrich died in 1864, and Tiddeman remarried Arvesta Fawcett in 1867, and to them were born four children: Thomas and Jennie, both of whom passed to the great beyond in childhood. Rowland died in 1935, Marietta married Victor F. Perry in 1903 and they lived at Beaverton, Oregon and are the parents of one sone, Westley
