Carl William Willert
(December 3, 1922 - August 12, 2007)

Carl W. Willert, 84, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died Sunday, August 12, 2007, at the Muse Norris Hospice Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Carl William Willert was born December 3, 1922, in Winnebago County, Iowa, the son of Carl and Emma (Johnson) Willert, Sr. He served in the United States Army during WWII in Burma and China and received the Purple Heart.

On February 24, 1946, Carl married Iva Junare Hagen at the Lake Mills Evangelical Lutheran Church. Carl and Iva farmed in the Lake Mills and Kensett area, but Carl also worked for Winnebago Industries in Forest City, Iowa, from 1971 until 1985 when he retired. He still enjoyed farming a few acres and using his John Deere tractor. Besides farming, Carl enjoyed working in his woodcraft shop, making wood and other craft items for his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other members of his family. He always enjoyed helping and doing things for other people. He was an active member in his church and a member of the Lake Mills American Legion Otto/Chose Post #235.

Carl will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Iva, of Lake Mills, Iowa; his three children: Ed (Deb) Willert, of Shell Rock, Iowa, Amy (Vince) Tweed, of Albany, New York, and Ruth Furness, of Lake Mills, Iowa; nine granddaughters, Jody (Glenn) Thada, of Garner, Iowa, Cathy (Randy) Jensen, of Harlan, Iowa, Debbie (Mike) Baynhem, of Durham Springs, Louisiana, Karla (Pat) McKilliagan, Teresa Moore, and Staci Willert, all of Waterloo, Iowa, Lorie (Eric) Risius, of Hampton, Illinois, Mindy Hauser, of Palinfield, Iowa, and Erin (Eric) Wood, of Albany, New York; seventeen great-grandchildren: Josh (Heather) and Jeremy Schulze; Danielle (Cory) Graham; Andrew and Victoria Jensen; Taylor, Christian, and Connor Chapman; Ryan (Heather) and Danny Richard; David, Jade, and Josie Moore; Macayla Willert; Jack Risius; and Kirstin and Hailey Wood; his great-great-grandchildren: Morgan, Jared, and Trevor Graham and Ellie, Brooke, Scyler, and McKenzie Schulze; his sisters: Agnes Thompson, of Cambridge, Minnesota, Mary Albers, of Lake Mills, Iowa, Emma Knapper and Irene Peterson, both of Thompson, Iowa, and Gladys Brekken, of Forest City, Iowa; his brothers-in-law: Clarian (Ruby) Hagen, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Lyle (Mary Lou) Hagen, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, David (Helen) Hagen, of Charles City, Iowa, and Ervin (Linda) Hagen, of Osage, Iowa; and his sister-in-law, Marilyn Stevens, of Oakdale, Minnesota; along with many other nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara, in 1959; his parents; his brothers: Henry, Johnnie, Fred, Elmer, and Walt; his sisters: Pearl Alphs and Margaret Heitland; his brothers-in-law, Leo and Merle Hagen; and his sister-in-law, Elaine Olson.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM, Wednesday, at the Lake Mills Evangelical Synod Church in Lake Mills, Iowa, with Rev. Karl Hermanson officiating.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM, Tuesday evening, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills.

Burial will take place at Lake Mills Synod Cemetery with military rights conducted by Lake Mills American Legion Otto/Chose Post #235.
