Danny Curtis Leuwerke
July 28, 1956 - June 6, 2011

THOMPSON - Danny C. Leuwerke, age 54, of Thompson, died unexpectedly on Monday, June 6, 2011.

Danny Curtis Leuwerke, oldest child of Curtis and Mary Leuwerke, was born July 28, 1956, in Britt, Iowa. He attended school in Britt, Crystal Lake and Ventura, graduating from Ventura High School in 1974.

Following graduation, Danny did what he most loved his whole life long: he pursued a career in farming.

In the summer of 1975, Danny's cousin, Randy Leuwerke, introduced him to Kathy. Danny and Kathy were married in 1977, and in April of 2011, they celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary.

They started their life together living east of Forest City. In 1994, they moved to their current home southwest of Thompson. Danny had an immense love for farming, experiencing all that a life tied to agriculture has to offer, enjoying the challenges that each new day provided.

An avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan, Danny had more recently been able to attend several games with Jeff and Brad, an occasion he so looked forward to that he insisted on arriving at the stadium at least three hours early so as not to miss any of the action.

Whether working on a piece of farm equipment or restoring old tractors and cars, Danny had a knack for fixing things. Indeed, he could repair almost anything.

Whether going on a cross-country camping trip or taking a few hours away to meet with his sons and their families/friends, Danny also took great pleasure in traveling. Danny loved being able to spend time with Kathy even if they were debating how to get to where they needed to go after one of them (Her name was the shortcut queen.) had given a wrong direction fifty miles back.

Sadly, Danny and Kathy had several travel plans along with many other future endeavors that were cut short. However, he leaves us knowing that the years he did have were spent with a loving wife, that he raised two sons well, and that he had a wealth of family and friends who cared a great deal for him.

Danny is survived by his wife Kathy of thirty-four years; his two sons, Brad of Janesville, Minnesota, and Jeff, and his wife, Beth, of Elk River, Minnesota; his mother, Mary Trappe, of Northwood; a sister, Kathy Price, and her husband, Brian; a brother, Paul Leuwerke; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Curtis and brother Greg.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 10, 2011, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the ceremony at Linden Lutheran Cemetery in rural Thompson, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City, and will continue an hour prior to service at the church.
